The purpose of creating an internal session variable is to use it in the dashboard filters & prompts.

Prompts: Term & Workflow State

Search the $ CurrentTerm session variable just created. Thus, the default term of the dashboard is the current term.

Thus, the course section of the dashboard is active.

Thus, dashboard default is the current term and active courses.
